BLAH COMPUTERS

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

The best part about new Norton Antivirus 2003 is that when it ultimately decides NOT to install, the little progress bar ticks backwards, demonstrating with each little step your complete failure as a computer technician.

The Stuff

Tuesday, July 29th, 2003
Have you ever seen something white and gooey on the ground, reached down, and tasted it? If so, The Stuff might be for you.

A man finds a white, fluff-like substance on the ground, discovers that it tastes great, and then decides to market it to the general public. But there’s a catch: “The Stuff” is living. It even moves. Somehow or another, our heroes end up saving America from it by employing a racist militia leader.

The movie raises several profound questions, the most pertinent of them being: Are you eating it, or is it eating you?

SUV’s

Sunday, July 27th, 2003
I was listening to the radio the other day and a commercial for the Volkwagen SUV, the Touareg, came on. Now, I like Volkwagen for the most part, but one line from the commercial just sorta got me.

“The Touareg can also ford up to 32 inches of water!”

Is it just me, or is fording a river a major step backward?

For nerds only

Friday, July 25th, 2003

I was at Merritt on Friday, sitting at my desk trying to do something productive. I needed a little network hub so I could get internet on 3 computers at my desk. Of course, I couldn’t find any power adaptors for the one I had in mind, so I just stole a massive stackable switch. I think it had like 32 ports. I connected 4 computers.
I didn’t realize that it had a fan in it. I think this added to the amazing rush of overkill that I felt as I plugged in my $1000+ switch, with its 28 empty ports.
Big Switch
Art: What are you doing with that?
Me: I needed a switch, and I didn’t have a power adaptor for the little one
Art: You realize that’s our backup switch for [Insert major client here]
Me: No.

Anyway, it’s still under my desk, whirring away.

Blogging Begins.

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2003

You might say that my blog has been a long time coming. I agree. I have dreamed about having a web page for years now, and finally I’ve got a homepage to call my own, even though you might say it was not designed by me. Anyway, this has a few far-reaching implications, which I will detail for you:

  • I finally get to use my HTML skills. Like the ones I’m using right now, to make this list.
  • I will further postpone talking to my dad, who just got back from driving his Porsche around in Pennsylvania.
  • At times, I will break into Internet linking frenzy, a la Jwz and Everything2. This makes me really cool and hip, even though it’s geeky.
  • The recycling shall remain in the garage.
  • Florencia will wonder why I’m not calling her.
  • Things in general will not get done.

That being said…
I woke up this morning at 8AM to go to a client’s house and fix what I broke yesterday. After showering, I checked my e-mail and browsed around /. a bit. I stayed at the client’s house til 10:30, then drove to Everett to do some intern work. I immediately began to fix my Boss’ computer, which took a good few hours. After that, I moved on to discussing plans for a wireless network, and rounded out the day with some video editing. More specifically, I worked until 7:45PM on that video editing. I came home, and I sat back down at the computer after dinner. It is now 11PM.
Yes that’s right, I spent the entire day in front of this damn machine. And now I’ve started a blog.
